Fire-resistant (FR) apparel—also known as flame-resistant apparel—is made from materials that are inherently resistant to catching fire. In contrast, fire- or flame-retardant apparel is chemically treated to self-extinguish. (Fire-retardant clothing offers a lesser level of protection than fire-resistant clothing, so make sure you know what level of protection you’re looking for, and don’t buy fire-retardant if fire-resistant is what you need. And note that neither category of clothing is wholly fire-proof.) Here at Outdoor Equipped we carry a variety of FR clothing and footwear from several premium workwear brands. Offerings from Viking combined fire-resistant materials with hi vis reflectivity to keep you as safe as possible on the job. Some Viking FR jackets, vests, and pants are also insulated against the cold and wet. Helly-Hansen Workwear offers a similar line of fire-retardant base layers and hi vis FR bib pants, jackets, and hats. Combine these offerings with a Danner wildland firefighter or smokejumper boot to complete your FR ensemble. It would be hard to be more prepared than that.
